Garden Snapshots!

Here are just a few pictures taken of our garden a few weeks back.

It is gowing so nicely!

This is a corn leaf, freshly watered.

I love green beans! 

Our green beans have been growing like crazy! 

So we cooked 'em up! 

We didn't cook them like Grandmother does,

so they weren't THAT delicious,

but it was quite fun to eat our home-grown greens!

Bushes!

Our blackberry bushes are blooming!

The blueberry bushes are budding! 

And what type of bush is this? 

A mulberry bush!

We have thousands of mulberries!

Planted Pots!

I got two red pots for my birthday LAST year to put on this porch!

I just now got around to filling them!

Ashley gave me the purple flowers for my birthday,

and I bought the yellow flowers at Lowes. 

So pretty! 

Aren't those petals cool!?!

Strawberry Craft Night!

The Strawberry Festival took place here in Dayton last weekend.

At craft night, we made decorations for the camp float,

which you'll have to check out at

It was lots of fun!

Speaking of strawberries,

we are trying to grow some of our own.

This one was coming along nicely,

until a bird pecked a big hole in it! 

The birds (I think)  have also been snipping unripened strawberries from the vine. 

I'm not sure if we'll ever get a plump, juicy strawberry of our own to sink our teeth into!

Growing Garden!

I LOVE watching our garden grow!

Here is one of our corn stalks!

Watching the garden grow is so exciting!

Iris!

After waiting and waiting...

they finally hatched! 

The only problem is, they all got knocked over by the storm.

I cut them and made a beautiful bouquet for my dining room table.

The next morning when I woke up it felt like my throat was able to be swollen shut,

and I couldn't stop sneezing!

Let's just say, I've got allergy troubles!

Now my beautiful flowers are living in the laundry room...

a little sad, but my nose is certainly happier!

Garden Party!

It's my birthday!

Happy birthday to me!

Every year since I was in 2nd or 3rd grade

I have had a garden themed birthday party.

I'm not exactly sure how this tradition got started,

because I can tell you one thing:
I've never been a fan of gardening!

I suppose it came about because my birthday

falls at the perfect time to garden.

My family hasn't actually planted a garden at my birthday party for quite some time,

but one tradition lives on...

my dirt cake!

At least, I hope it lives on this year.

I'll let you know after my family party on Saturday! 

Anyways, to celebrate my birthday

I thought I'd do a gardening post!

Here is our nice little garden spot Joel worked hard to prepare for us.

Joel told me I looked funny laying in front of it.

He was right!

First we planned out where we would put everything.

Turns out we could have used a bigger garden! 

We worked for a loooong time putting all our little plants into the ground!

They were so happy to finally have room to stretch their roots! 

Everything is pretty close together.

We'll have to weed some out later on,

but it was just so sad not to use what we'd spent so long growing already! 

And just so everyone knows,

I DID help plant the vegetables!

I'm not sure my sisters believe me, but it's true!

I even enjoyed it!

Our garden is getting so big!

Hopefully we'll get to put our plants in the ground soon!

Now the green beans are winning the growing prize!

I'm glad of that! 

And here's another exciting plant that is flourishing!

It's a blackberry (hopefully someday to become) bush!

We just planted a stick, and now there are leaves! 

Yahoo!

One more thing!

I can't wait for this one to pop open!

It's an iris! 

Who would have thought that I'd be so excited about all this growth?

Not me!  Not my family!

I'm a new woman!  haha!

Garden Beginnings!

Joel and I decided to try starting a garden.

Here we are with our sweet little seeds!

It's been about a week, and here's what we've got:

The radishes are flourishing!

Look at all our little sprouts!

Neither of us knows much about gardening,

so we'll see how this goes!
